General Background:

Derek grew up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He started hockey at the early age of 5.

Hockey Background:

Youth Hockey:

* Derek's favorite youth hockey memory was when his team finished in 3rd place at the Bantam A State Tournament during his first year of A traveling hockey.

High School: Derek attended Osseo Senior High School from 2003-2007.

* During his sophomore year he set the School JV Team Record with a 21-2-1 season.
* Derek was the starting Varsity goalie for the 2005-2007 seasons.
* He was awarded the Mr. Hustle Award.
* During his senior year Derek received the Unsung Hero Award.
* Derek had a 7-6-1, 2.78 GAA Senior Year.

Beyond High School: After High School Derek has played Junior Hockey.

* Derek has played Junior Hockey for 2 years for teams including the Twin Cites Northern Lights and the Minnesota Wildcats.

Goalcrease History:

* Derek began training at the Goalcrease when it first opened in 2002.
* In 2007 Derek became a certified Goalcrease instructor.

Current Life and Hockey Highlights:

* He loves coaching and is doing it as much as possible.
